Are you happy? What exactly IS happy, anyway?
First off, I want to thank my current subscribers for allowing me to wander off into the wild world of corporate thinking. I don't usually go there, but I have a surprise coming up that I will be revealing in the next day or so and I appreciate your understanding.
When I was thinking about it, I came up with an interesting notion: it doesn't matter if you actually work in a corporation or not to get the juice from what I have been talking about the last few days. Many of you are parents, or what I call 'the CEO of the corporation called your family', or are members of volunteer, spiritual or service organizations. Being a member of any group poses the same issues for yourself as a human being trying to belong and find meaning in your situation.
Burnout certainly can strike us as parents! I remember when my daughter was a baby, my sleep-deprived mind would occasionally wander to fantasies of violence. I had so much shame around that (I still can hardly breathe as I reveal these words to you 15 years later!). It wasn't until I attended a La Leche League meeting when my daughter was two months old, that I realized that most burnt-out, exhausted parents have those thoughts flit through their heads at one time or another. What a relief to find myself in a roomful of people who could show me the way to laugh about it!
